My first job in 1998 was at a small investment banking boutique in Spain (AB Asesores Bursatiles) which was later bought by Morgan Stanley. Then moved to Salomon Brothers in London from 1991 to 1995. Moved to Banco Santander as Head of Equities from 1995 to 2006. Then, within Santander, moved to Consumer Banking. Spent 5 years in Beijing, China, as CEO for Santander Asia-Pacific. Then in London from 2015 as CEO of Santander Asset Management, I retired in March, 2018. Over these years I have held directorships at many companies in Europe and China (I was on the Board of most of Santander's consumer finance subsidiaries in Europe and I was on the Board of Bank of Shanghai and Bank of Beijing Consumer Finance until a month ago).
